Let’s reflect on Sunday’s WORD:

What’s LOVE Got to Do With It??? Pt. 2 ******* 1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.  2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.  4 Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; 5 it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.  7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  8 Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.  9 For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; 10 but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.  11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.  12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.  13 So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

LOVE matters more than RELIGIOUSITY (v. 1-3)
-       There are some who have religion but no LOVE (no real relationship) *Paul opens this chapter on LOVE by listing some religious activities and behaviors….  In this list he seems to suggest that it’s possible to be highly religious and committed to religion/CHURCH but not have a real relationship with the LORD…  (1 John 4:7-8 - 7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.  8 He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.)
-       No matter what you do, if you don’t do it with LOVE it does matter *In this list Paul also suggests that you can do these highly religious acts, but IF we don’t LOVE none of it matters.  LOVE is the pre-requisite for any of these other things to even matter…
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care…”
-       John C. Maxwell

LOVE is not SELFISH (v. 4-6)
-       Genuine LOVE doesn’t inflict pain… *Paul’s description of love is that when we love we don’t try to hurt the people we love.  The reality is many times we get upset because of something a person does and then we commence to trying to “fight fire with fire” and that “mud-slinging” can be very hurtful…
BUT WE MUST REMEMBER:
            * LOVE is kind… NOT MEAN
            * LOVE is supportive and encouraging… NOT JEALOUS
            * LOVE is sweet… NOT rude
            * LOVE makes peace… NOT IRRITATING AND RESENTFUL
            * LOVE is humble… NOT PRIDEFUL
-       Real LOVE doesn’t demand that things be “my way or the highway” *A resounding message in Paul’s explanation of LOVE is that love is not SELFISHLY driven…  LOVE NEVER DEMANDS ITS OWN WAY!!! (v. 5b)
(Luke 22:42 - 42 "Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.")

LOVE is PATIENT and PERSISTENT (v. 7-10)
-       LOVE will “bear”/tolerate a lot… *Paul explains that “love bears all things” and “endures” or tolerates…  When you have genuine love for a person, it prompts you to be patient with them and endure what you otherwise would not.  The magnitude of LOVE minimizes their LOAD…  (1 Peter 4:8 - Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.)
-       LOVE won’t give out or give up… *Paul contends that LOVE NEVER fails/ends/stops… (v. 8a) This word he keeps using is: LOVE [Gk] agape’ = brotherly love, affection, benevolence, good will, unconditional…
***A realignment of fellowship should never result in a loss of LOVE…

LOVE requires MATURITY (v. 11-13)
-       The ability to truly love requires some maturity (v. 11)*After his explanation of the longevity and persistence of LOVE, Paul seemingly makes a random statement.  “When I was a child I thought as a child…”  HOWEVER, it seems to me that this is also a suggestion that LOVE for the saints is a sign of maturity.
-       Only Faith, Hope and LOVE will endure and the best of them is LOVE *At the end of it all, Paul says the things that matter are faith, hope and love…  These are the things that will stand in the believer…  Our faith in God, our hope for his return and the LOVE for Him and his church are what will endure… (More than tongues, buildings, titles, worship, ministries…)

LIFE Kudos: Special Kudos this week goes Jaleesa Washington…  I want to make sure it is known that is was the brain child of Jaleesa to have a “Mixtape Concert.”  Jaleesa sent me an email a while back explaining her idea to have a concert where we performed songs from the Betta LIFE Mixtape…  I thought the idea was amazing and I believe the concert for LIFE Night was awesome…  Thank you Jaleesa for sharing your vision with our church and I pray the concert was as awesome in your eyes as it was in mine…
